Points system changes for 2007 Points system changes for 2007
No bonus points this year.
No race drop this year.
Points awarded in all classes based on a full ladder no matter what the car count is.
Examples for Super Gas, which is a 16 car field class.
Race one
16 cars show up. Winner would receive 20 points for attempting qualifying and 100 points for winning for a total of 120. He would also add his points for qualifying (1-16 points)
Race two
8 cars show up. Winner would receive 20 points for attempting qualifying and 100 points for winning for a total of 120. He would also add his points for qualifying (1-16 points)
In the event of a Tie in Championship points, the tie will be broken with most wins, runner-ups, Etc.. If this shows to be identical, both racers will split the Championship bonus monies.
Points for breaking ET records still stand a 20

Don't know if I understand this or even if it matters in my case. If a guy/gal attends all but one race and wins all the races he/she attends and technically is in the point lead at the end of the year, does that mean he/she is not go to get any Championship money?

CORRECTION!!! One must attend 4 of the 5 races to receive Championship Bonus money!
When the above was typed we had 4 races on the schedule... I removed it from the above post... The rule has not been changed...

Will they still be considered the Champion or a runner-up or third place if they have the points and only attended three races?

Actually it's the same as it has always been... We will need to discuss why it was originally set up this way and the reasons for it…
The rules have read "A driver must compete in at least five races in a season to receive end of season payouts" I believe this was written when there was 6 or more races in the season!
I don't know if it has ever been an issue with a Champion. But I see how it could affect 2nd and 3rd place in some classes.

What was wrong with the old point system, counted EACH ROUND raced, rather than the new 100 points for a winner even if it is a two car field?
This will cause more ties.
Why cant ties be decided?
I dont like this new 2007 system so I am voicing my opinon :)

Bob,
Look at it as a bonus for attending an event without the fancy “Bonus Title”. The point gap for those attending doesn’t change. I think it’s a fair reward to receive the same points for traveling all the way to an event like Denver, and finding you went all that way to get only 60 points for winning! The bonus points for individual events was deem unfair by many that just don’t have the funds to travel!
Ties are always possible no matter the format. Who would have thought with the point system we had last year that you and Pat would tie…

Gotcha, I see your point. A racer who wants to place high at end of year rankings, will have to go to all the races for sure.
There still should a way to decide a tie, especially for first place. With this new point system there will be ties for sure, I see future problems with it.

Kevin,
I the first point here, you have written that 20 points will be awarded for a qualifying attempt.
After checking the points it seems that only 10 points has been given for Tech/Qualifying attempt.
Clarification???
Thank's,
Rich

That was a typo... The correct amount of points is 10

After racing the whole year with the new point system, this new rule change turned out OK. I see why some had a problem using the old point system. Anyway the tie thing can still happen and there should be some way to determin the placing. Please figure it out and have it in the 2008 rule book.
S/C Joel Carter #C600, 460 points #1. 16 rounds, 70 Q points
S/C Bob Hemphill #758, 436 points #2. 15 rounds, 66 Q points
one round and four point difference

Yeah Bob it was really close in a few of the classes! (Troy and Rich! ONE POINT!   ) The "NEW" rule book will cover ties and tie breakers.
